Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is already planning to dip back into the transfer market after spending more than €250 million this summer – and the Portuguese is planning to replace one of these additions.

United’s summer spending has been put under the microscope after a poor start to the season, with Benjamin Sesko making a notably slow start after arriving on a €76.5 million deal from RB Leipzig.

But while the striker has been involved for the Red Devils, former Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens is yet to make an appearance for his new club. The Belgian has watched from the bench as United lost the derby to Manchester City before beating Chelsea at the weekend.

His signing is already being questioned, and with Amorim reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper, Lammens faces even more scrutiny.

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has caught the eye of Man Utd, according to a report from TalkSport.

Maignan will be a free agent next summer and has been hotly linked with a switch to Chelsea, who have their own goalkeeping issues after Robert Sanchez was sent-off early against the Red Devils last time out.

Where does this leave Lammens?

Amorim reportedly wants a more experienced No.1 than Lammens, which explains why Altay Bayindir has been preferred to the 23-year-old in the early weeks of the season.

Links that Maignan is of interest to Man Utd only strengthen the suggestion that the Old Trafford side see their summer arrival as a long-term project rather than an immediate solution to their goalkeeping problems.

This is not, however, how his arrival was sold in the summer. Lammens, it was said, was coming in to replace Andre Onana. It seems that the reality of his situation is very different.
