PSG race against time to extend Kvaratskhelia’s contract

PSG are aiming to agree terms on a new contract for winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia but face a race against time to tie the Georgia international star down to a new deal.

The double Champions League winners have seen Kvaratskhelia blossom into a genuine contender to win the Ballon d’Or since he arrived in a €70 million deal from Napoli in January 2025, and they are now seeking to protect his future.

Indeed, PSG want to secure an agreement with the Georgian before the results of the 2026 Ballon d’Or vote are made public, giving them little over seven weeks to strike an agreement with the player, according to L’Equipe.

PSG turn to contract renewals after record transfer window

With the transfer window closed and PSG having achieved record sales worth nearly €335 million, they are now turning their attention to tying down their existing players. A deal with Ousmane Dembele has reportedly been struck, and now the management are turning their attentions towards Kvaratskhelia.

The progress has been promising. L’Equipe reports:

“According to internal sources, discussions have been underway for several weeks and are progressing very positively, to the point that an agreement is considered "very likely" soon. This new contract, running until 2030 or 2031, is expected to include a salary increase.”

It adds that PSG’s aim is to have the deal secured and an announcement made by the time the Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place in London on 26 October.

Why the urgency?

Kvaratskhelia is a serious contender to win the Ballon d’Or after scoring 10 goals and generating seven assists in the Champions League last season. PSG believe that if he does win the individual award, it will make any renewal talks harder.

Instead, they will include a clause in his contract that would offer him a bonus should he pick up the prize.

Although Kvaratskhelia is among the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or, he trails the likes of Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal in the betting odds, with the England striker the clear favourite to win the prize for the first time.
