Marseille have not proceeded with their talks with Arsenal over Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international has been widely expected to depart Arsenal this summer after a disappointing campaign, which he himself described as the worst in his professional career.

Zinchenko is no longer a key part of Mikel Arteta's plans, and the versatile left-back believes that the Spanish tactician has lost faith in him. Unsurprisingly, then, talks have been taking place over a move away.

Marseille recently discussed a deal with Arsenal, but there was always an acceptance that it could be a difficult one to pull off, given Zinchenko's substantial wages.

According to Sky Sports, a move to France now looks increasingly unlikely for Zinchenko. In fact, the report states that the 28-year-old is now expected to stay at Arsenal for the season.

Zinchenko to stay at Arsenal

Given that the windows of Europe's elite leagues close in a matter of hours, Zinchenko is unlikely to secure a move to a top-five division before the deadline.

That said, the report acknowledges that there could be another twist in the tale if Turkish clubs reignite their interest in the Ukrainian. The Super Lig window remains open until 10 September.

Fenerbahce showed a strong interest in Zinchenko last month, and premature reports out of Istanbul even suggested that a deal with Arsenal was pretty much done.

Jose Mourinho was reportedly a key driver of the deal - and something of an ace up Fener's sleeve - but the Portuguese coaching legend has been sacked, so it remains to be seen if Zinchenko would still be interested in a move to the Bosphorus.
