Trossard to leave Arsenal for Besiktas? Romano reveals the state of play
Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard will not join Besiktas this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Belgium international has become the subject of speculation in recent days as Turkish giants Besiktas have reportedly taken a keen interest in him.
The Super Lig transfer window remains open until 12 September, and the 16-time domestic champions have been on the lookout for a marquee winger in recent weeks.
Earlier this summer, Man Utd outcast Jadon Sancho rejected a move to Istanbul despite having his social media accounts flooded with millions of comments begging him to join Besiktas.
Trossard has emerged as an alternative target, with reports this week suggesting that Besiktas have made a €22 million offer for the 30-year-old and that Arsenal are willing sellers.
Trossard won't leave Arsenal
However, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Trossard will not leave the Premier League giants this late in the summer, despite the recent arrival of Eberechi Eze, which has seemingly diminished the Belgian's role in the team.
Romano points out that Trossard agreed a new contract with Arsenal just a few weeks ago. The fresh terms were not an extension to his previous deal, which ran until 2026 with the option of an additional year, but simply a pay increase.
However, this agreement was struck at a time when Arsenal looked to have ended their pursuit of Eze, only to swoop for him again after Kai Havertz suffered an injury. This twist has given rise to suggestions that Trossard could be allowed to leave after all.
But Romano insists that there is 'no chance' of the versatile attacker departing for Turkey. The insider did not disclose if Besiktas' supposed interest is genuine or just a baseless rumour.
