Arsenal gear up for January transfer of €70m-rated Brazil star
Arsenal are bracing for January interest in Gabriel Martinelli, with AC Milan particularly keen on the Brazilian, according to a report.
The 24-year-old is facing an uncertain future at the Emirates. Despite still being under contract at Arsenal until 2027 with the option for a further season, Martinelli is fighting to survive the latest phase of the club's evolution under Mikel Arteta.
The Brazil international's attacking output has declined in recent seasons, and this is putting the functional winger increasingly at risk of being replaced by the more daring Eberechi Eze.
Arteta is looking to transition to a more direct style of play, which is the opposite of what he has been instilling in Martinelli over the past few years. It means that the attacker's place in the manager's side is no longer secure.
Indeed, it was recently revealed that Arsenal were open to offers for Martinelli in the summer, although no suitable bids materialised despite interest from some big hitters.
Arsenal ready to sell Martinelli in January
According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal will not change their stance on Martinelli in January. They won't actively force him out, but they would be prepared to sell at the right price.
Of course, offloading Martinelli would require the signing of a replacement, and the report claims that Rodrygo is still high on Arsenal's shortlist. Whether a January move for the Real Madrid star is realistic remains to be seen.
It is claimed that AC Milan, in particular, are showing a strong interest in the Arsenal winger amid fears that Rafael Leao could leave in 2026 after being repeatedly linked with an exit this summer.
Martinelli is said to have been valued at up to €70 million by Arsenal in the bygone window, while suitors were unwilling to pay more than €50m. Selling him is viewed as a way of funding the acquisition of an upgrade like Rodrygo, with Arsenal also having to be mindful of UEFA's financial rules after ending the summer with the biggest net spend in football.
