Gyokeres’ Arsenal transfer linked to Stockholm shooting: Police investigate amid blackmail probe
Viktor Gyokeres’ summer transfer to Arsenal continues to produce drama, with the deal now being linked to a shooting that took place in Stockholm over the weekend.
Initial investigations into the incident suggest that there is a link to Gyokeres’ move from Sporting CP to the Premier League giants, which took place for an initial €65 million.
It was a hard-fought deal on the part of Arsenal. Not only did they have to contend with Chelsea and Manchester United as serious competition, the Lisbon club negotiated hard over the deal and it was only after concessions were made by the player’s agent that it was able to go through.
But even with the dust settled on the move, there have been ramifications in Gyokeres’ homeland.
According to multiple sources in the Swedish press, including ETC and Expressen, a shooting in Huddinge near Stockholm is connected with the transfer.
What happened?
On Sunday evening, police received a call regarding shots being fired at an address where relatives of a Swedish football agent were present.
Although no one was injured, the authorities have started an investigation into the incident.
“One of the police theories is that there may be a connection between the shooting and an ongoing investigation into suspected blackmail against the agent in question,” Expressen states, adding that the representative had already received threats prior to the incident.
ETC reports that these suspicions were raised after a relative of the agent in question bragged about receiving a slice of the cash associated with Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal.
“This shooting is not directed at me. It has nothing to do with me or football. The information you have received is fortunately completely incorrect,” ETC reports the agent as having said.
Hasan Cetinkaya, who is the leading partner of the HCM agency that Gyokeres is represented by, has previously denied claims that the agent involved in this incident has any role in his organisation.
