Tottenham have announced a new contract for club captain Cristian Romero ahead of their expected signing of Eberechi Eze.

The palpable positivity in the white half of North London is showing no signs of subsiding. A solid performance in the UEFA Super Cup has been followed up with a convincing win over Burnley, and new signing Mohammed Kudus has had a brilliant impact so far.

Tottenham have now provided their supporters with a further boost by announcing that new club captain Cristian Romero has signed a contract extension after some speculation surrounding his future.

"I'm very happy here in the club," Romero said after his deal was confirmed. "For me, this club is the best in the world. The last two weeks, first becoming captain and now signing the contract with the club. For me, it's a fantastic decision."

However, Spurs are not done there. They still want to provide Thomas Frank with fresh firepower after James Maddison's ACL injury, and a move for Eberechi Eze is reaching a decisive stage.

El Khannouss requests Crystal Palace transfer

Prior to the announcement of Romero's new deal, Ben Jacobs reported that Leicester attacker Bilal El Khannouss had informed his club of his desire to join Crystal Palace in a move that would clear the way for Tottenham to sign Eze.

Palace want to bring in a replacement before sanctioning the departure of the England star, and El Khannouss is among the top options for the job, along with Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis.

The Morocco international is likely to cost in excess of €30 million after his relegation release clause at Leicester expired earlier this summer. Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking to pay less than €70m for Eze.

Talks between Palace and Spurs are expected to reach a conclusion this week. The 27-year-old has told the Selhurst Park club that he wants to make the move to North London and the two clubs held fresh discussions earlier on Monday.
