Hincapie undergoes Arsenal medical, €52m deal OFFICIAL in 24 hours
Piero Hincapie will undergo his Arsenal medical on Sunday and officially complete his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in the next 24 hours.
FootballTransfers' Steve Kay can confirm reports elsewhere that Hincapie will be in London on Sunday for his Arsenal medical.
Assuming everything goes as planned, the Ecuadorian centre back will sign his Arsenal contract and the transfer will be officially announced in the next 24 hours.
Hincapie to Arsenal
Hincapie will first join Arsenal on loan and there will be an option to make his transfer permanent next summer for a total of €52 million. The Bundesliga side will also retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Hincapie will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal if his stay at the Emirates is made permanent next year, with the Ecuador international now the second player Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta have managed to steal from under the nose of rivals Tottenham after Eberechi Eze last week.
Spurs were first to express an interest in Hincapie, even making a formal loan offer with a purchase obligation. However, the player had his heart set on a move to the red half of North London when he heard of the Gunners' desire to bring him in.
Hincapie is initially expected to become a replacement for Jakub Kiwior as a back-up left-back and centre-back, but it would not be a surprise if he were to supplant Riccardo Calafiori as the starting full-back on the left.
Leverkusen have seen their squad gutted this summer, also losing the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka.
Hincapie waved goodbye to Leverkusen fans on Saturday after the 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen.
Hincapie has spent over four years at Leverkusen since joining from Talleres in 2021.
He has made over 150 appearances, famously winning the Bundesliga unbeaten in 2024.
He has been capped 46 times by Ecuador.
