Newcastle have officially completed the club-record signing of Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.

The Magpies finally have their new marquee No.9. With Alexander Isak going on strike to force through a move to Liverpool, Newcastle were left scrambling for offensive reinforcements.

It has been a bruising summer for the St. James' Park club as Eddie Howe has been forced to watch several top targets slip away, but they have now managed to pull off a coup at last.

Newcastle have announced that Germany international Nick Woltemade has arrived at the club in a big-money deal whose exact value is the subject of debate.

Reports on the fee have differed, ranging from €75 million to €90m. Regardless of the precise amount, it is a club-record transfer for Newcastle, who have handed Woltemade a long-term contract.

Newcastle sign Woltemade

The signing of the 23-year-old is expected to make Newcastle more likely to sell Isak to Liverpool, although it remains to be seen if it will really be enough for them to sanction his exit, as they still want another attacker in as well.

Woltemade has joined Newcastle after intense links with Bayern Munich, who had made him their top striker target earlier this summer. The Bundesliga champions failed with several bids as Stuttgart didn't want to sell.

However, when Newcastle showed themselves willing to pay an inflated fee for the striker, the Swabians simply had no choice but to cash in on him. Woltemade's Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €33.4m shows that this is a significant overpay.

It is a risk Newcastle have had to take given their desperate striker situation, and they will hope that Woltemade can live up to his evident potential.

The Germany international is one of Europe's most unique forwards. Despite standing at 6ft 6in, Woltemade is more renowned for his technical ability than his heading or physicality, making him quite similar to Isak.
