Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has been given seven days to agree a transfer to AC Milan, according to a report.

The Denmark international appears to be fighting a losing battle at Old Trafford. Man Utd have been open to offers for Hojlund all summer, and his exit is increasingly taking shape.

However, if it were up to the 22-year-old, he would be competing for the starting No.9 role with new signing Benjamin Sesko this season. Hojlund welcomed the arrival of the Slovenian and has repeatedly insisted - both publicly and privately - that he wants to stay.

Unfortunately for him, football doesn't work like that and Man Utd, after splashing more than €230 million on new signings, now need to offload the players that are deemed surplus to requirements.

Ruben Amorim sent a clear message to the young forward on Saturday. After Sesko was officially unveiled at Old Trafford, Hojlund was left on the bench for the entire duration of the Red Devils' friendly clash with Fiorentina.

Hojlund given transfer ultimatum

Earlier on Monday, it was revealed that Amorim's brutal decision had led to a change in Hojlund's stance, with the player now accepting that he should probably leave Man Utd for the good of his career.

His family and agent have also been pressuring him to abandon the Red Devils in recent days, and it seems that Hojlund has finally given in. However, accepting that you need to leave and actually leaving are two different things.

AC Milan are trying to sign Hojlund and have an agreement in principle with Man Utd. The Rossoneri will pay a €6m loan fee and have a €40m purchase option next summer. They will also cover his salary.

However, the deal still needs to be greenlit by the 22-year-old. Because of this, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan have given Hojlund seven days to agree to the move.

Milan sporting director Igli Tare remained in England after Sunday's friendly with Chelsea to personally resolve the situation and convince Hojlund to make the move. Should no definitive answer arrive within the next week, the Serie A giants will move on to different targets.
