Manchester United have reached a 'verbal agreement' with AC Milan for the transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, but the player still needs to be convinced to move, according to reports.

The Denmark international's future at Old Trafford is in doubt following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko. The ex-RB Leipzig striker has joined Man Utd in an €85 million deal and is expected to become Ruben Amorim's starting No.9.

Hojlund will therefore be playing second fiddle this season, but the 22-year-old backs his ability to be able to compete with Sesko. He has repeatedly insisted that he is going nowhere this summer.

However, Man Utd now need to offload players. North of €235m has been spent on new recruits this window, despite a reported budget of just €100m. Fees can be amortised, of course, but the Red Devils still need to get rid of some unwanted faces.

Hojlund has not yet been told by the club that he is surplus to requirements, but they have indicated to him that they will listen to offers. Indeed, with Sesko now at the club, it looks increasingly likely that Man Utd will seek to offload the Dane.

Man Utd reach Hojlund agreement

AC Milan have held talks with the Red Devils over a move for the 22-year-old in recent days, and significant progress appears to have been made. According to Calciomercato, there is already a verbal agreement in place for a loan with a €6m fee attached.

The two clubs are now in the process of negotiating a future purchase option, with Ben Jacobs reporting that Man Utd want at least €46m for Hojlund. Milan are ready to pay around €40m, which, in conjunction with the loan fee, would match the Red Devils' valuation.

Striking a club-to-club deal is not expected to be an issue. Convincing Hojlund to make the move is the bigger problem, but his agent Kees Voss sees the writing on the wall and is looking to facilitate his exit, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Hojlund doesn't share his agent's concerns that his playing time will be reduced this season, but it is expected that all parties involved - Voss, Milan and Man Utd - will increase the pressure on the striker to seriously consider a return to Italy.
