Man Utd set Alejandro Garnacho transfer date
Manchester United will not sell Alejandro Garnacho until they sign a new striker, according to reports.
The Argentina international has been frozen out by Ruben Amorim following the pair’s public bust-up after the Europa League final and he has been forced to train with the Red Devils’ U21 side since returning from holiday.
Garnacho wasn’t included in Man Utd’s squad for their pre-season tour of the USA and he is pushing to complete a blockbuster summer move to Chelsea amid significant interest from Enzo Maresca’s side.
The Blues are, however, currently focused on sanctioning several player sales, while they are also eager to finalise a deal for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons.
Garnacho remains on their radar and he has been widely tipped to join the reigning Club World Cup champions this summer, although a deal is unlikely to take place until closer to Transfer Deadline Day.
This aligns with Man Utd’s plan to bring a new centre forward to the club.
Although Garnacho isn’t a striker, he is one of very few proven attackers at Old Trafford and Amorim’s side will not sell the 21-year-old until a number nine is signed, according to CaughtOffside.
Man Utd are locked in advanced talks to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, amid competition from Newcastle United, and a deal for the Slovenian would reportedly open the door for Chelsea to complete the signing of Garnacho.
Ruben Amorim confirms Alejandro Garnacho exit
Although Garnacho is yet to secure a summer transfer, Amorim has all but confirmed that he will be sold before the end of the window.
“Garnacho is a really talented boy, but sometimes things don't work out,” the Man Utd boss told reporters over the weekend (via GOAL).
“You cannot explain specifically what it is. But I have the feeling that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. And I can understand that. It's not a problem.
“Sometimes you adapt to one guy, you have the connection. Other times, you want a new challenge. We try to make everything okay to all the parts, to the club, to the coach and to the players. It's a natural thing in football.”
Amorim continued: “There are players that clearly show that they don't want to be here, and that is normal. It’s not that they’re bad and I’m good, or I'm bad and they’re good.
“It's not that situation. It's a simple situation that they want new challenges. If the market closes and they are still Manchester United players, we as a club have to treat them under the same conditions.
“But at this moment, I'm just working with the players I think are going to stay, and the other guys are trying to find a solution for their careers.”
Garnacho registered 21 goal contributions in 58 appearances last season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €59.8 million.
