Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS crucial Marc Guehi to Liverpool agreement
Crystal Palace have reached an agreement to sign Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot, potentially paving the way for Liverpool to secure Marc Guehi.
The Eagles have been desperately scouring the centre-back market in the knowledge that they will likely have to sell their club captain before the 1 September deadline.
Guehi is out of contract next summer, and Crystal Palace can't really afford to lose a player as valuable as him for nothing. With the England star showing no willingness to sign a contract extension, Guehi needs to be sold, and chairman Steve Parish has already confirmed as much.
Discussions between Liverpool and Crystal Palace over a deal for Guehi have yet to reach a positive conclusion, with the former determined not to overpay and the latter keen to get what they feel is a fair price for one of the Premier League's most accomplished defenders.
One crucial aspect preventing the Guehi deal is the lack of a ready-made replacement. Indeed, Oliver Glasner reiterated earlier on Friday that he does not wish for the defender to be sold, as there is no way of securing an adequate successor this late in the window.
Palace to sign Canvot
However, financial considerations will likely see Parish overrule Glasner before Deadline Day, and Palace are now closing in on a replacement for Guehi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Having just completed the signing of Villarreal attacker Yeremy Pino, Palace are now focusing all their efforts on bringing in Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot.
Romano reports that an agreement with the Ligue 1 side has been reached and that the deal only needs to be finalised, which is likely to pave the way for Liverpool to sign Guehi.
Romano has repeatedly insisted that the Reds will keep trying to strike a deal for the 25-year-old, with a bid apparently ready to be submitted as soon as Canvot arrives in South London.
