€20m transfer domino helps Chelsea sign Xavi Simons
Chelsea are yet to reach a full agreement for Xavi Simons, but a €20 million transfer domino could help them land the RB Leipzig superstar.
Simons, 22, has verbally agreed to join Enzo Maresca’s side this summer and reports in Germany state that he will finalise the “written details” of his contract this week as he looks to complete a blockbuster move before Transfer Deadline Day.
The Netherlands international has also been linked with both Bayern Munich and Manchester City, however he has set his sights on a Stamford Bridge switch, despite the fact he is likely to be deployed as a back-up option to Cole Palmer.
Chelsea have earmarked Simons as a key transfer target, but they are currently prioritising player sales due to the threat of being unable to register new signings for their Champions League squad.
Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are both wanted by Aston Villa, Raheem Sterling is expected to leave after being cast aside by Enzo Maresca, and Tyrique George may also depart amid significant interest across Europe.
Meanwhile, Julio Enciso’s imminent €20 million move to Strasbourg, who are also owned by the Chelsea hierarchy, is set to help Maresca’s side earn an additional €25m to fund a move for Simons.
Borussia Dortmund transfer domino
Borussia Dortmund have reached a full agreement to sign Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka for a transfer fee of €25m, including add-ons, plus a “heavy” sell-on clause, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
Before finalising a deal for Chukwuemeka, Dortmund were also interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Facundo Buonanotte, who spent last season on loan at Leicester City.
Although Buonanotte may still be sold this summer, the departure of Enciso means an exit is far less likely and Dortmund have therefore opted to sign Chukwuemeka instead.
This decision is set to provide Chelsea with a further €25m to spend on Simons before Transfer Deadline Day ends on 1 September.
