Chelsea have a number of transfers they still want to complete before the window shuts on 1 September, with the most important of these the arrivals of Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons.

German media believe that a deal for Simons is doubtful, while Fabrizio Romano says that Garnacho will become a Chelsea player before the deadline.

In order for either of these deals to stand a chance of going through, though, the Stamford Bridge side have to lighten Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Various players have been tipped with a departure, including Christopher Nkunku, who has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich.

Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, is proving to be a more problematic case. Although he has been rumoured to be on the shortlist of several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, Chelsea are ready to take desperate action to secure a move for the Senegal international striker after he fell to third in the pecking order behind new arrivals Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Instead of selling Jackson on a permanent basis, as the Blues’ initial plan seemed to be, they have instead elected to listen to loan offers, according to Ben Jacobs.

The transfer insider reports on X: “Chelsea are prepared to sanction a loan with obligation for Nico Jackson if a permanent transfer can’t be agreed. Clubs currently told a £10m loan fee is required. Bayern remain in talks.”

Chelsea are currently not far from breaking even with regard their transfer spending this summer.

The Blues have bought €280 million worth of talent but have balanced this with €220m of sales, a figure that will rise if and when Jackson and Nkunku depart.

Maresca is currently in a phase of the window in which he is seeking to reduce his numbers, with Aaron Anselmino sealing a move to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
