Chelsea receive OFFICIAL Xavi Simons transfer message
Chelsea’s pursuit of Xavi Simons has taken a turn after RB Leipzig made their stance clear over the youngster’s future at the club ahead of the final week of the transfer window.
The Blues have been locked in negotiations to sign Simons for the last few weeks but they have so far been unable to agree a deal with Leipzig despite the midfielder being desperate to make the move.
Simons has rejected interest from other clubs in order to hold out for a move to Chelsea, but the Premier League side are first hoping to sell Christopher Nkunku before making a formal offer to Leipzig.
Leipzig defeated Sandhausen in the DFB Pokal last Saturday, in which Simons grabbed a goal and assist, and manager Ole Werner insisted that the 22-year-old is expected to play in the Bundesliga opener versus Bayern Munich on Friday even if his future is still uncertain.
“I’m planning with him, he is with us and training well,” Werner said. “He is motivated and looking forward to the game against Bayern. I’m looking forward to seeing him in this clash.
“Until the last day of the transfer window, anything can always happen – we know that. What’s important is to be well prepared – and we are.”
Leipzig could turn to Chelsea star as Simons replacement
Leipzig are already understood to have agreed personal terms to sign a potential replacement for Simons in Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott as the Bundesliga side resign themselves to losing their talismanic youngster.
Simons had expressed his desire to leave Leipzig at the end of last season after they failed to qualify for European football, with the Dutchman also having less than two years remaining on his contract.
Leizpig are believed to be holding out for around €70 million for Simons, while Chelsea will need to resolve the future of Nkunku before being able to sign their target.
Nkunku could end up also returning to Leipzig if a deal can be struck with Chelsea, with Bayern Munich also interested, but no move is believed to be close as of yet for the Frenchman.
