Newcastle are targeting Leicester attacker Bilal El Khannouss for a move that could have major consequences for Eberechi Eze's proposed switch from Crystal Palace to Arsenal.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed last week that the England star's transfer to Arsenal hinges on Crystal Palace finding a suitable replacement. The financial parameters of a deal have already been agreed upon, but Eze continues to wait for the green light from Oliver Glasner and Steve Parish.

Eze is not agitating for the move, and it is understood that he would not down tools should no transfer materialise, but he would like to grasp the opportunity of playing for Premier League title challengers and regular Champions League participants.

The entire transfer operation has proceeded in a very respectful manner, and Arsenal are understanding of the fact that Eze would be a massive loss for the Selhurst Park outfit, so they are patiently waiting for Palace to find a replacement.

Leicester attacker Bilal El Khannouss was recently touted as an ideal replacement for Eze, but the Morocco international does not only have admirers in London.

Newcastle target El Khannouss

Indeed, according to The Telegraph, El Khannouss is now being pursued by Newcastle as they seek to successfully end what has so far been a dire transfer window.

Defender Malick Thiaw is set to be unveiled as a new Magpies player imminently, while forward Yoane Wissa continues to push for a move to St. James' Park. El Khannouss would be another attacking reinforcement to bolster Eddie Howe's side ahead of a campaign in the Champions League.

The 21-year-old showed signs of promise but ultimately could not stave off Leicester's relegation to the Championship last season. He assisted both goals in the Foxes' 2-1 opening day victory over turmoil-stricken Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

El Khannouss is understood to have a release clause in his contract, although the exact value has yet to be disclosed. He currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €39.7 million. Leeds are also said to be interested in the Moroccan.
