EXCLUSIVE: Eberechi Eze closing in on Arsenal move
Arsenal are closing on the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, with sources informing FootballTransfers that there is only one element of the move that needs to fall into place.
The Gunners have already signed five players this summer, making key signings in the midfield and attack in the form of Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres.
Mikael Arteta is now close to completing all his major transfer window aims by adding a high-class wide player in the form of Eze to his side.
FootballTransfers can reveal that financial terms have already been agreed between the clubs. Arsenal will pay a total fee of €63.5 million (£55m) to Palace for the England star, with €34.5m (£30m) set to come upfront. There are still discussions over the structure of the remainder of the instalments, yet this is not thought to present a major sticking point.
What is holding the deal up is Palace’s desire to secure a replacement before selling one of their star players. In particular, the club’s delay in appointing a replacement for sporting director Dougie Freedman has proven to be an issue.
Too good a chance to miss for Eze
Arsenal remain in contact with Eze, who wants to complete a move to North London this summer. He feels this is too good an opportunity to turn down.
Crystal Palace are reluctant to lose such a talent but are said to appreciate the player’s situation.
At 27 years old with the World Cup next season, Eze would like the stage of the Emirates Stadium to impress England boss Thomas Tuchel, while he is also excited to challenge for both the Premier League and the Champions League.
In the meantime, Arsenal are prioritising outgoings while Palace search for the attacker’s replacement.
There is concern at the Emirates Stadium that their London neighbours could struggle to find a suitable replacement, potentially postponing a deal back until January.
The Gunners are braced for this eventuality and continue to monitor the situation of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as a serious alternative option.
