Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer twist: Ornstein confirms BOMBSHELL update
Alexander Isak is “adamant” that he will never play for Newcastle United again, according to David Ornstein.
The Sweden international handed in a transfer request in late July in an attempt to force through a blockbuster move to Liverpool and he has been exiled from first-team training by Eddie Howe as a result of his conduct this summer.
The 25-year-old is still a key target for Liverpool, but the Reds are yet to return with a second offer following the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike for €95 million.
Isak has not featured for Newcastle during pre-season, due to his desire to join Liverpool, and he is now expected to miss their opening fixture of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign versus Aston Villa on Saturday.
That is according to The Athletic’s Ornstein, who claims that Isak is “adamant” that he will never represent the Magpies again. In fact, the Sweden star has reportedly decided that he won’t reintegrate back into the first-team squad at St James’ Park even if his desired move to Liverpool fails to materialise.
The former Real Sociedad striker still has three years remaining on his current contract at Newcastle, but he regards his career at the club as “over.”
Who will Newcastle sign to replace Isak?
Newcastle have insisted that Isak isn’t for sale this summer, but they remain interested in signing a replacement and Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson is among the players on their radar following the failure to sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is also wanted by Eddie Howe’s side, while Porto striker Samu Aghehowa is a target too.
Isak scored 27 goals and provided six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at a whopping €117.1m.
