Emi Martinez to Man Utd: 'Alarm bells' ringing as 'TEMPTING' offer arrives
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is receiving Saudi interest amid his ongoing links with Manchester United.
The Argentine is expected to leave Villa Park this summer, but so far, there has not been a lot of movement for the 32-year-old. That is because Aston Villa are not making life easy for his suitors.
It has been claimed that the Birmingham club are demanding as much as €50 million for the veteran shot-stopper, which has naturally put off potential buyers. Most prominently, Man Utd have been linked with the World Cup winner, and Martinez is understood to be keen on the move.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils recently made contact with Villa to enquire about the possibility of signing 'Dibu' on an initial loan, which was rejected out of hand by their Premier League rivals.
"Aston Villa told them: ‘No chance.’ It was very clear after the meeting that they will not let him go on loan," Romano said on his YouTube channel. "Man Utd have yet to decide if they want an experienced goalkeeper or if they want a younger goalkeeper."
Martinez receives Saudi interest
According to Argentina's largest newspaper, Clarin, Martinez is increasingly receiving interest from Saudi Arabia, and a 'tempting' offer is said to have already been made.
Martinez's priority is a move to Man Utd, but with the prospects of such a transfer rapidly cooling, he may be forced to consider what is described as an 'exotic' option.
This, the report claims, is 'raising alarm bells' in Argentina because national team boss Lionel Scaloni is keen for his No.1 to remain in one of Europe's top leagues rather than to make the 'step down' to the Saudi Pro League.
This is particularly important in light of the fact that Martinez is coming off a mixed season in which he did not always perform at his very best. For now, the keeper's future remains uncertain. Unless Man Utd decide to pay up, he may have no choice but to head to the Middle East.
