OFFICIAL: Man Utd complete Bryan Mbeumo signing
Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils have announced their second marquee signing of the summer. After sealing a deal for Matheus Cunha worth a whopping €74 million, Man Utd have now secured the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo.
Talks with the Cameroon international began shortly after the signing of Cunha was formally completed at the beginning of June, but negotiations with Brentford proved eminently difficult.
The Bees insisted that Mbeumo was worth north of €80 million, and Man Utd ultimately had to pay up after having several bids rejected. The final fee for the 25-year-old is believed to stand at €82m.
€75m of that figure will be transferred to Brentford as a guaranteed fee in four instalments. Mbeumo has signed a five-year contract after having his heart set on a move to Old Trafford from the moment the Red Devils made contact.
Man Utd sign Mbeumo
According to Mbeumo, joining Man Utd is a childhood dream come true. "As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up," he said after completing his move.
"My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.
"Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies."
Man Utd director Jason Wilcox said of the versatile attacker: "Bryan’s goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons.
"Bryan’s belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing.
"We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour. The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new team-mates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead."
In addition to Mbeumo and Cunha, Man Utd have also signed youngsters Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik.
