‘Definitely an option’ – Sesko to Man Utd verdict as €100m bomb drops
Manchester United have been given new hope in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
The Red Devils may have added Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to their attacking options already this summer, but Ruben Amorim’s side are seeking a centre-forward and have been closely linked with Sesko of late.
The RB Leipzig star was previously targeted by Arsenal and Chelsea, but the two Premier League giants have secured other signings. The Gunners preferred Viktor Gyokeres, while the Blues added both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to their ranks.
With the way cleared for Man Utd to sign Sesko, are they likely to find the Bundesliga outfit willing sellers?
According to German transfer expert Christian Falk, there is every chance a deal could be struck.
“It’s worth noting that Leipzig have to sell players this summer. They have a target to bring in €100M [£86.6M], and they have just two players in this range who can make the club money,” he told Caught Offside.
“Xavi Simons, of course, is one such footballer, with the other being Benjamin Sesko. So, it could be that the club has to sell both players in this summer’s transfer window.
“That’s why Manchester United will definitely be an option. Sesko is a fan of the Premier League and is prepared to make this next step.”
How much will Sesko cost?
RB Leipzig may want €100m worth of sales, but the Bundesliga side cannot expect that from one transfer.
Sesko’s asking price was initially set at this benchmark but has since dropped to €70m. This falls closely in line with his €69.6m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) and suggests the Old Trafford side would get fair value if they were to complete a deal around this price.
Man Utd, who are closing in on a move for Valencia’s Javi Guerra, according to reports from Spain, have also been linked with Simons, but the Netherlands playmaker looks primed to sign for Chelsea.
