Wirtz 1st, Gyokeres 8th: The 10 most expensive signings of the summer transfer window
The 2025 summer transfer window is in full swing and several high-profile deals have already been completed as clubs in world football look to bolster their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Premier League teams have once again asserted their immense financial dominance by sanctioning multiple major transfers, while the rest of Europe has largely been forced to prioritise sales over signings due to a lack of funds.
However, with Transfer Deadline Day not until 1 September, there is still plenty of time for clubs to dip into the market in search of reinforcements, and several big-name players are expected to move clubs before the window slams shut.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through the 10 most expensive signings of the 2025 summer transfer window so far.
10. Mohammed Kudus - €63.8m (West Ham to Tottenham)
Mohammed Kudus has completed a €63.8m move to Tottenham Hotspur amid interest from multiple top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Newcastle United.
He registered nine goal contributions across all competitions last season and he has become the first player to join Tottenham from West Ham United since Scott Parker in 2011.
9. Jamie Gittens - €64.3m (Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea)
Jamie Gittens struggled for game time at Borussia Dortmund during the second-half of last season, but that didn’t stop Chelsea from splashing a whopping €64.3m in order to secure his signature.
The England U21 international was also wanted by Arsenal, but Chelsea emerged victorious in the race to sign him and he is set to compete for a starting berth on the left flank at Stamford Bridge.
8. Viktor Gyokeres - €65.8m (Sporting CP to Arsenal)
After weeks of negotiations, Viktor Gyokeres completed his long-awaited move to Arsenal for a reported fee of €65.8m on 26 July, although add-ons could take the deal past the €70m mark.
Manchester United were also eager to sign the Sweden international this summer, but he set his sights on joining Mikel Arteta’s side instead, and he is expected to become their new starting centre forward after scoring 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP.
7. Mateo Retegui - €68.3m (Atalanta to Al-Qadsiah)
Mateo Retegui is the Saudi Pro League’s standout signing so far this summer, with the Italy striker joining Al-Qadsiah for a fee of €68.3m.
He scored 28 goals in 49 games for Atalanta last season, winning the Serie A top goalscorer award in the process, and he will replace the departed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Al-Qadsiah’s starting centre forward.
6. Luis Diaz - €70m (Liverpool to Bayern Munich)
After missing out on both Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, Bayern turned their attention to finalising a deal for Luis Diaz and, after reaching an agreement with Liverpool, he joined the club for €70m.
The Colombia superstar notched 64 goal contributions in 148 games for Liverpool and he is set to become Bayern’s new first-choice left winger following the departure of Leroy Sane upon the expiration of his contract.
5. Martin Zubimendi - €70m (Real Sociedad to Arsenal)
Martin Zubimendi rejected the chance to join Liverpool last summer, but he has now completed a Premier League switch after finalising a move to Arsenal.
The Spain international has become Arsenal’s fourth-most expensive signing of all time and he is expected to be deployed in a midfield trio alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
4. Matheus Cunha - €74.2m (Wolves to Man Utd)
Man Utd completed the signing of Matheus Cunha during the pre-Club World Cup transfer window after triggering the €74.2m release clause in his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract.
The Brazilian registered 17 goals and six assists in 36 Premier League games last season, and his arrival will shift Bruno Fernandes into a deeper role in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
3. Bryan Mbeumo - €75m (Brentford to Man Utd)
After weeks of intense negotiations with Brentford, Man Utd finally reached an agreement to pay an initial fee of €75m in order to land Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo was identified as a key target by the Red Devils after he notched 20 Premier League goals last term and he will likely become a key player at Old Trafford.
2. Hugo Ekitike - €95m (Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool)
Hugo Ekitike has become one of the most expensive players in football history following his €95m move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool.
He scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances last season and he will become Liverpool’s new starting centre forward after snubbing interest from the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd and Newcastle to secure an Anfield switch.
1. Florian Wirtz - €125m (Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool)
Florian Wirtz was one of the most sought-after players in world football following a stellar stint at Bayer Leverkusen, and Liverpool won the race for his signature after agreeing a €125m transfer fee.
The Germany international has become Liverpool’s all-time record signing and he is expected to add significant creativity to the Reds’ attack. He is the most expensive signing of the summer so far.
