Fabrizio Romano transfer news: Osimhen TRUTH, Williams RELEASE CLAUSE, Gyokeres in 'TENSE TALKS'
Football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest news from the 2025 summer window, with updates on Victor Osimhen, Nico Williams and Viktor Gyokeres.
Elanga ‘here we go’
Romano started his latest YouTube video by confirming that Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga is set to join Newcastle United after the Magpies agreed a fee for the Sweden international.
“Man Utd will get some money because they had a sell-on clause - something around £7m or £8m for Anthony Elanga,” he said.
“Newcastle have signed a fantastic player who they really wanted. Eddie Howe pushed for this deal to happen and the deal is done for a £55m package. He is travelling to Newcastle today for medical tests and contract signing. Everything is done.”
Arsenal signing confirmed
Meanwhile, Romano also confirmed that Arsenal have completed the signing of Christian Norgaard, pending an official announcement.
“Arsenal and Brentford have completed all the formalities for the midfielder Christian Norgaard to replace Thomas Partey,” Romano revealed.
“The player has agreed everything, the medical is ready and Norgaard can be considered a new Arsenal player - the ‘here we go’ was already in place almost two weeks ago.”
Viktor Gyokeres optimism
Arsenal are also in advanced talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres, although negotiations are “tense”, despite his desire to join the club.
“The negotiations continue in Portugal for Viktor Gyokeres,” Romano admitted. “All the most important people in this saga are in Portugal to try to strike a deal and complete everything as soon as possible.
“On Sunday, Arsenal had hoped to close the deal, but that was not possible as the Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, insists on having €70m guaranteed, plus add-ons. Arsenal were offering €65m, plus add-ons.
“For Sporting it’s not just about the money, it’s about showing how firm they are in negotiations.”
Romano added: “I can guarantee to you that the links around the story were not helping the discussions so the situation got quite tense on Sunday night.
“On Monday, they restarted the negotiations and today they will continue. Any hour can be the hour of Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal. Arsenal keep their optimism and their confidence to sign Viktor Gyokeres.
“Gyokeres is doing his best effort [to join Arsenal]. He has sent some private messages to the president of Sporting to ask him to go to Arsenal. He is doing everything. He gave up €2m from his salary package for that money to go on the proposal and help Arsenal to facilitate the deal with Sporting, who are being tough in negotiations.”
Mbeumo to Man Utd update
After missing out on Gyokeres, Man Utd are prioritising a move for Bryan Mbeumo, although they are yet to finalise a fee with Brentford.
“Man Utd keep working on Bryan Mbeumo. I can guarantee to you that Man Utd are fully focused on an Mbeumo deal with Brentford,” Romano revealed.
“Conversations are still underway and the player is still waiting for Man Utd as a top priority. There is still an agreement to reach with Brentford, but talks are ongoing.”
Victor Osimhen to Man Utd?
While Mbeumo is a top target, Man Utd will not sign Victor Osimhen this summer, according to Romano.
He told his YouTube channel: “I have had many questions about Man Utd and Victor Osimhen, but the deal never advanced for one reason: Osimhen never wanted to reduce his salary request.
“Osimhen has always been very happy at Galatasaray and Galatasaray now have an agreement on the contract with Osimhen until 2028, plus an option until 2029.
“Galatasaray are negotiating with Napoli. A €50m plus €5m offer was rejected and then a €60m offer was rejected. Napoli want €75m release clause [to be paid].
“Al-Hilal are prepared to pay this, but the player has an agreement with Galatasaray, not with Al-Hilal. Galatasaray are now seen as the favourites.”
Darwin Nunez latest
Osimhen’s future may have a major impact on Liverpool’s transfer business, even though he is unlikely to move to Anfield.
“The final fee for Osimhen will be important to understand what Napoli can offer for Darwin Nunez,” Romano explained. “€50m was never going to be enough for Liverpool.
“But, in the next two weeks, Napoli are expected to try again for Darwin Nunez. He remains their top target and he has opened the doors to Napoli.”
Nico Williams release clause
After months of speculation, Nico Williams ended talk of an Athletic Club exit by signing a new 10-year contract with his boyhood club, and Romano has revealed a crucial detail in the deal.
“I wanted to tell you that the new release clause included in the contract of Nico Williams is around €100m from 2026,” he said. “That’s an important detail on the future of Nico Williams, who has signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Club.
“It was €58m plus taxes up to €62m this summer. Next summer, it’s going to be €100m.”
Inter Miami update
Finally, Romano provided an update on Inter Miami’s latest activity in the market.
“Keep an eye on Rodrigo De Paul because he is in negotiations to leave Atletico Madrid and go to Inter Miami to eventually join Lionel Messi,” the transfer expert confirmed.
“Messi is negotiating with Inter Miami over a new contract and they are on the same paper. They want to continue and now Inter Miami want to add De Paul. The player is keen on the move and the discussions are very positive between De Paul and Inter Miami.
“Inter Miami are now negotiating with Atletico Madrid over a fee and if they can’t agree on a fee this summer, they can go for him on a free transfer next summer.”
