Chelsea ‘push the boat out’ to sign thrilling Premier League star
Chelsea are ready to continue another big-spending transfer window with a deal worth close to €100 million that will see the Stamford Bridge outfit land one of the Premier League’s hottest properties.
Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers is the player being targeted by Enzo Maresca’s side.
Although the ultra-versatile Rogers is valued at €92m (£80m), Chelsea could use much of their windfall from winning the Club World Cup to capture the player.
The Blues won around €110m thanks to their success over PSG in East Rutherford last weekend, and that could be immediately reinvested into the squad.
And the West London outfit are poised to take advantage of Aston Villa being threatened by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which could force them to sell.
While the Birmingham club would prefer to offload Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Leon Bailey, they could ultimately be pressed into allowing Rogers to leave.
The attacker scored eight times in the Premier League and added 11 assists, seeing him earmarked as one of England’s most bankable assets.
Rogers would join the Blues as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Noni Madueke and represents an alternative to Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €66m, though this is far in excess of the €9.4m he joined Aston Villa for from Middlesbrough in February 2024.

Rogers in, Nicolas Jackson out at Chelsea
Chelsea are in a position to negotiate a double deal with Aston Villa. While they are expected to pay around €90m to snap up Rogers, Nicolas Jackson could head in the opposite direction.
Villa boss Unai Emery is thought to be eager to sign the Senegal forward, who he worked with at Villarreal.
It is stressed that a swap deal is not on the cards because the Premier League’s financial rules mean it makes for sense for the two transactions to take place separately.
While it is claimed that Chelsea are ready to “push the boat out” to sign Rogers, no quick deal is expected. Indeed, this is a saga likely to progress into August.
