Alexander Isak Transfer News Today: Newcastle star 'going to leave' with deal REJECTED
The latest transfer news surrounding Alexander Isak after the Newcastle striker asked to leave St James' Park, with Liverpool and other teams interested in a move.
Isak rejects Newcastle contract
Alexander Isak has rejected the offer of a new contract at Newcastle, with the club already considering replacements after the forward asked to leave amid links to Liverpool.
Isak has been left out of Newcastle’s upcoming pre-season tour of Asia and the 25-year-old has asked to explore moves elsewhere, although Eddie Howe’s side are adamant that he will not be sold this summer.
In spite of their stance, Newcastle have retained an interest in Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement, while a move for Yoane Wissa from Brentford is expected to be completed regardless of Isak’s future.
The Times have revealed that Isak has rejected an offer to become Newcastle’s highest earner ever on around £200,000-per week, with the Swedish international thought to be holding out for £300,000 instead.
Premier League duo turn down Isak move
Manchester United and Chelsea are among the sides who have ruled themselves out of the race to sign Alexander Isak this summer despite a long-term interest in the Newcastle star.
Chelsea had been keen on signing Isak last year and had retained an interest at the start of this summer but, with no desire to sell Nicolas Jackson, combined with the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, Enzo Maresca is said to be happy with his options up front.
United, meanwhile, were never considered serious contenders to sign Isak but the finances of a deal have made a move a non-starter despite a desire to sign a striker this summer.
A cheaper option is being sought by United, with a move for Jackson or Benjamin Sesko also off the table, according to the Daily Mail.
Liverpool to face Al-Hilal competition for Isak
Liverpool are expected to be the only major European side to move for Isak but they will likely face competition from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal.
Al-Hilal have been knocked back on attempts to sign a number of high-profile stars this summer but the Saudi Arabian side are believed to be targeting a big-money approach for Isak.
Newcastle would prefer for Isak to move to a club outside the Premier League if they were to sell their star man and they may be open to accepting a lower fee to achieve that outcome, with Al-Hilal rumoured to be considering an offer of £130 million (€150m) according to talkSPORT.
However, Isak is not believed to be considering a move to Saudi Arabia at this point in time and talks have not been engaged as of yet between Al-Hilal and the player or club.
Shearer expects Isak sale
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has hinted it is only a matter of time before Isak leaves the Magpies, declaring that there is ‘no individual bigger than the club’.
Shearer told betfair: “It sounds like he’s going to leave. The news came out very strongly this morning and when that happens it seems to be a reality.
“Players leave football clubs all the time and get replaced. If that's the case here, it's disappointing but you have to say thank you and move on.
“You have to get the very best deal for the football club and if someone is prepared to pay north of £150million, and if he really, really wants to go, you can't step in his way.
“There's no individual bigger than the football club.
