Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Viktor Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal from Sporting CP is all but completed.

Portuguese media reported on Thursday morning that a deal was 95% completed, but now all the paperwork has been finalised, meaning that it is only a matter of time before the Sweden international star completes his switch to North London.

Gyokeres to Arsenal has been a long-running saga, and even in recent days, there have been frustrating delays for the Gunners over the make-up of bonus payments in the deal.

Mikel Arteta’s side are set to pay €63.5m to sign the 27-year-old hitman upfront, with €10m following in add-ons. Sporting, meanwhile, are set to receive an additional €6.5m as the player’s agent has elected to waive his fee.

Romano finally gave Arsenal fans the news that they have been waiting weeks for: they have a new centre-forward in their ranks.

“Viktor Gyokeres is a new Arsenal player as every document has been approved and exchanged,” he wrote on X.

“Arsenal and Sporting completed the process with formal authorisation to travel. The medical is to start in the next 24 hours.

“Gyokeres is coming soon.”

With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €77m, Arsenal are paying a good price for the striker.

Will Arsenal have Isak regrets?

Arsenal’s move to tie down Gyokeres comes just as it has been revealed that the Gunners’ dream target Alexander Isak has handed a transfer request in with Newcastle United.

There is unlikely to be any sense of regret at the Emirates over this, however. Gyokeres has been signed for a total cost of around €70 million upfront, while Isak is set to cost some €100m more than that figure if Newcastle ultimately sanction a move.

Arteta, meanwhile, will be hopeful that the striker can rekindle the type of form that saw him score 54 goals in 52 all competitions last season.

If he can hit that type of ratio, Arsenal will be in with a strong chance of winning the Premier League.
