Viktor Gyokeres will finally complete his long-awaited move to Arsenal, with the Premier League giants finally reaching an agreement with Sporting CP over the transfer of the striker.

It is expected that Gyokeres’ transfer will be made complete on Thursday, breaking an impasse that has seen the Gunners repeatedly delayed in adding the Sweden centre-forward to the ranks of Mikel Arteta’s side.

According to Portuguese source Record, the deal for the 27-year-old is “over 95% complete”, with the player expected in London to complete the formalities of a medical.

Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer fee

Gyokeres will cost Arsenal as much as €80 million in total, likely putting him ahead of Bruno Fernandes as Sporting’s biggest sale ever.

Here’s a breakdown of how this figure is made up:

  • Upfront cost: €63.5m
  • Achievable bonuses: €10m
  • Waived agent fee: €6.5m
  • TOTAL: €80m

Delays in the deal were caused by negotiations over exactly what it will take to trigger the bonus payments.

It has not been revealed what the agreed-upon bonus terms are, but Sporting wanted three €2.5m payments tied to Gyokeres making 20 and 40 appearances in his first season, followed by another 20 in his second campaign. They also wanted a payment triggered if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League. The Gunners wanted at least one of these to be trickier.

Coventry City are entitled to 10% of everything that Sporting earn on the player over €24m, which was the fee the Portuguese club paid for him in 2023. The Championship side will earn €3.95m from Arsenal’s initial payment.

How long is Gyokeres’ Arsenal contract?

Gyokeres will sign a five-year deal with Arsenal. He will be contracted to the club until 2030.

Will he play in Arsenal’s pre-season tour?

It’s unclear.

Arteta was known to want Gyokeres on board with his team for the tour of the Far East. However, this started on Wednesday with a 1-0 win against AC Milan.

Arsenal still have matches against Newcastle (27 July) and Tottenham (31 July) to play but it’s unclear if the Swede will travel for these games.

On Wednesday, he attended a dental clinic in Mallorca, which was confirmed on his social channels.

It’s not unfeasible for Gyokeres to travel to hook up with the Arsenal first team, particularly if the deal reaches a quick conclusion as expected.
