The imminent appointment of Thomas Frank as the new Tottenham head coach has given rise to suggestions that Spurs could hijack Manchester United's anticipated move for Bryan Mbeumo.

The North London club sacked Ange Postecoglou on Saturday after a week of deliberation by chairman Daniel Levy. By winning the Europa League, the Australian delivered Tottenham's first trophy in 17 years, but he also led them to their worst-ever Premier League finish.

With Champions League football on the menu next season, Levy decided that a change of manager was necessary. Brentford boss Thomas Frank quickly emerged as the clear frontrunner for the job.

Talks with the Dane have taken place in recent days, and FootballTransfers can confirm that he has agreed to take the Spurs hotseat. The final details of his appointment, as well as the payment of around €12 million in compensation to Brentford, are now being sorted.

Unsurprisingly, his imminent arrival has generated speculation that he could take some of his Bees stars with him to North London. Most notably, there has been talk that he could hijack Man Utd's move for Bryan Mbeumo.

Tottenham won't pursue Mbeumo

Man Utd are currently locked in talks with Brentford for the versatile forward. The Bees knocked back an opening offer last week, but the Red Devils are expected to return with an improved bid shortly.

Mbeumo has made it clear to Brentford and his other suitors that he only wants to join Man Utd, so a deal is expected to get done eventually. According to Ben Jacobs, reports of a potential Spurs hijack are premature at this stage.

Tottenham are looking to add a right-sided attacker, but the journalist reports that Man Utd are so far the only club in formal talks with Brentford for the 25-year-old.

Should Man Utd fail with their pursuit - which is unlikely but not impossible given their tense financial situation - there could be a window of opportunity for Frank to reunite with his former star attacker, but this is just conjecture at this point.

Spurs are thought to be focusing on Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling at present. The Europa League winners hold a long-standing interest in the exciting winger and are serious about signing him this summer.
