Real Madrid agreement made

Real Madrid have tied down Brahim Diaz to a new contract, with Romano telling his YouTube channel that only the formalities need completed.

“The agreement is done for Brahim Diaz to sign a new deal at Real Madrid,” he said. “Despite some approaches that he had from England – there were many clubs in the Premier League interested in signing him – the player has decided to stay committed to Real Madrid. He’s staying at the club and signing a new contract. The next one will be Thibaut Courtois.”

Rodrygo to Arsenal: Is a deal close?

Romano detailed the latest on the Brazil international winger, revealing that Arsenal are indeed tracking the player, but any transfer has not even reached the early stages yet.

He explained: “On Rodrygo, what I’m hearing, is that the position of Arsenal is absolutely confirmed. Arsenal like and appreciate Rodrygo and will add, not just a striker, but an important winger to their squad in the summer transfer window. Yes, they like the player and they are informed on the player, but they are not negotiating with Real Madrid, they have not approached the club or the player. We’re not even at the early stages.”

Romano added that Real Madrid will one sell on one condition.

He said: “The only way to sign Rodrygo is if he goes and tells the club: ‘I want to leave the club.’ As far as I’m aware, he’s not told anything to Real Madrid. Arsenal would add to love Rodrygo but it’s not something concrete.”

No doubts over Kerkez as Darwin Nunez exit confirmed

Changes are coming at Liverpool this summer, with no unexpected surprises in the pipeline, despite Milos Kerkez’s deal being delayed.

“Milos Kerkez will be a Liverpool player, no doubt. He will play for Liverpool. There are some technical things to resolve, but this is not a big issue and it’s not a problem. He’s not considering any other proposals,” Romano said.

“Richard Hughes, the Liverpool sporting director, was at Bournemouth and signed him from AZ, so for sure they want to go for the player and will sign him. No doubt about that.

“Darwin will leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window. There are calls from Saudi Arabia, there are European clubs interested, Napoli are making progress. More contacts will take place. Napoli have had new conversations with the player. We’ll understand more about this deal in the next hours – what Darwin wants to do, the conditions of the deal from Liverpool. Darwin Nunez is for sure on the list of Napoli.”

In the case of Andy Robertson, there is a little more doubt, Romano said.

“He is the desired target for Atletico Madrid but the player wants to take his time. He’s going to think about his future. Lucas Digne is another strong option for the position. We’ll follow the situation and see what Liverpool and Robertson will decide,” Romano added.

Nico Williams to Barcelona: Why there are doubts

Romano has unpicked a potential problem that Barcelona face in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club, despite the club and the player pushing for the deal.

“The player is keen on a move to Barcelona. He wants to go to Barcelona and is ready to go there,” he said.

“Now the update is that Barca will try to go for Nico Williams. Why try? Because it’s easy to say that Barca are going for him and appreciate the player and like the message coming from the player, but what’s needed now is for Barca to understand from the financial point of view they can make it happen.

“The release clause is there, yes, but the release clause is €58m in one payment. Barca want to meet the agent of the player to try to understand if there is a solution with Athletic Bilbao to pay the clause in a different way. This is going to determine whether Barcelona can do the deal or not.”

There are options for Nico if the deal with Barcelona falls through.

Romano explains: “Bayern are still there and waiting to see what happens. They’ve been told by Nico Williams that he wants to go to Barcelona. They are the clear favourites.

“Don’t forget Arsenal. Since last summer, Mikel Arteta is a big fan. He’s on one of the highest positions on their shortlist as winger but Arsenal believe he’s moving to Barcelona and financially, in terms of salary, this could be a difficult deal.”
