Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd striker talks

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Man Utd have made an enquiry over signing Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
The Athletic reported on Monday that Watkins has been added to the club's shortlist of targets.
The report stated that there have been talks between Man Utd and Aston Villa via intermediaries to explore the feasibility of a move for the England international.
The Athletic added that Villa may be open to a sale due to their precarious financial situation.
Romano has now confirmed this report from The Athletic.
What did Romano say?
“It is true as reported by The Athletic that Manchester United made an enquiry for Ollie Watkins,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Man Utd made the call in the last few days to understand the situation.
“Ollie Watkins is one of the names under consideration at Manchester United. So let’s see if United will decide to invest in a younger striker or an experienced option like Ollie Watkins.
“But they made the call to be informed on the situation and on the conditions of the deal, and so the interest from Man Utd in Watkins is confirmed.
“And then if they will advance on the deal, we will see very soon.”

Watkins has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League over the last few years.
Last season he scored 16 Premier League goals in 38 games.
He also enjoyed a brilliant 2023-24 season, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in the Premier League to shoot Villa into the Champions League.
He has also impressed at Euro 2024 by scoring the last minute winner for England against Netherlands in the semi final.
United plan to sign a new striker before the end of the summer transfer window.
