Chelsea have submitted an improved, €50 million bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

The Blues are looking to add another big name to their squad in time for the Club World Cup, but time is running out, with the deadline now just mere hours away.

Chelsea have already failed to bring in Mike Maignan and Hugo Ekitike in time for the tournament in the US, but they are determined to avoid a similar outcome with Jamie Gittens.

According to RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have made an improved offer for the Dortmund winger after an opening bid worth around €35m was rejected last week.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with Chelsea keen to reach an agreement before this evening's deadline. However, unlike with Maignan, failure to strike an agreement in time will not be a dealbreaker.

Chelsea to sign Gittens this summer

Chelsea are expected to sign Gittens this summer, regardless of whether or not they manage to bring him in for the Club World Cup. The 20-year-old left-winger has already agreed terms on a seven-year contract and wants the move.

Dortmund resigned themselves to losing the England youth international weeks ago and will not stand in his way if their valuation is met. Reports in Germany suggest that the Black and Yellow are holding out for potentially as much as €70m, but Chelsea's new €50m bid seems fair.

Gittens has bags of potential, but he is still incredibly raw and inconsistent. He fell out of favour under new Dortmund boss Niko Kovac and endured a difficult second half of the season, which tanked his value.

Should Dortmund reject the Blues' latest offer, negotiations will continue beyond today's deadline to thrash out a deal for the proper transfer window, which will open on June 16 for English clubs and July 1 for German sides.

UPDATE: Borussia Dortmund have rejected Chelsea's €50m offer, according to Sky Germany.
