Arsenal are considering a transfer for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke after seeing their top target in Nico Williams move to Barcelona.

Williams has agreed personal terms with Barcelona, who are now set to activate his €58 million release clause at Athletic Club, with Arsenal having pulled out of talks to sign the 22-year-old due to his wage demands, despite him being their preferred target.

The situation has led to Mikel Arteta looking further afield to strengthen in the wide attacking areas and The Telegraph report that Madueke is one of a number of players who has attracted their interest.

While the scope of Arsenal’s search means it cannot be determined how keen they are on a move for Madueke, the England international is wanted by the Gunners among other clubs, with the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham also pursuing players in his mould.

Madueke has not been put up for sale by Chelsea or offered to any clubs but rivals are said to believe the 23-year-old is ‘not considered to be untouchable’ amid Enzo Maresca’s side adding the likes of Estevao and Kendry Paez to their ranks this summer, while also being keen to sign Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

With his ability to play on both the right and the left wing, Madueke’s versatility would give Arteta greater depth and cover for Bukayo Saka, while also being able to play on the opposite flank to his England teammate.

Madueke may be forced out of Chelsea door ahead of World Cup

Madueke still has five years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge but the young forward may be open to a move in order to ensure he gains sufficient game time next season ahead of the World Cup next summer.

Pedro Neto finished the season as Chelsea’s starting right winger, leaving Madueke to feature on the left and the club’s determination to sign Gittens could see his gametime reduced.

Arsenal are no strangers to conducting business with Chelsea, having signed Raheem Sterling on loan from the Blues last summer as well as Jorginho and Kai Havertz in recent seasons.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is also on course to move from Chelsea to Arsenal to become David Raya’s understudy in goal, with the 30-year-old having a release clause of £5 million in his contract.
