Viktor Gyokeres Transfer News Today: Arsenal SHOCK as Sporting send strong message

All the latest Viktor Gyokeres transfer news, including the latest on Arsenal's interest, his latest suitors and Sporting CP's stance on a sale.
Juventus open Gyokeres talks
Serie A giants Juventus have initiated 'phase two' of their striker pursuit amid growing concerns over their ability to secure a deal for Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen.
Armed with €60 million in UEFA funds after qualifying for the Champions League, the Old Lady are determined to sign a prolific No.9 to replace the much-maligned Dusan Vlahovic.
To that end, they have now begun exploring a move for Gyokeres as a Plan B should they indeed fail to land Osimhen, who is believed to be in advanced talks with Al-Hilal.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport acknowledges that the biggest obstacle Juventus face in pursuit of Gyokeres is the competition from Arsenal. The Gunners have made the Swede one of their top targets.
Arsenal 'make' Gyokeres bid

Earlier this week, reports from Portugal claimed that Arsenal had made an opening bid of €70 million for the 26-year-old after meeting with Sporting CP officials following the Taca de Portugal final on Sunday.
FootballTransfers exclusively broke the news that Arsenal's representatives would be in attendance for the final, and we understand that the Gunners remain intent on signing the striker.
Although Gyokeres has a €100m release clause, Sporting are understood to be open to doing business for a fee in the region of €70m. However, we have not been able to corroborate the claims that Arsenal have made an offer.
On the contrary, we have been explicitly told by sources close to the player that Arsenal have yet to make a bid.
Sporting deny Gyokeres bid
Sporting CP, too, deny that a bid has been made for Gyokeres. “At the moment, there are no offers; he has three more years on his contract," vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha said on Wednesday.
"I think the answer has been given. [Sporting’s transfer plans] won’t be any different from last year. We want to keep the best players and retain talent. We want to continue to be champions, have competitive teams and fight on all fronts.
“I have been in this role for seven years. In the years when Sporting were champions, we even made fewer sales than in other years. The fact that we are champions gives us a greater ability to retain players and talent.
“Coincidence or not, we have not had to sell any players in those times. Not that we have not received offers, but the market is not under our control, we are always dependent.”
Gyokeres rejects Man Utd
While Gyokeres' future is still uncertain, one thing is clear: he won't join Man Utd this summer. FootballTransfers has been reporting since December that a move to Old Trafford is highly unlikely unless the Red Devils qualify for the Champions League.
By losing the Europa League final, Man Utd have officially missed out on European football altogether and therefore stand no chance of attracting Gyokeres, reports have now confirmed.
The Swede turns 27 in June and is determined to play in the biggest competitions and challenge for the most prestigious silverware. He won't join a middling side this summer, no matter their past exploits.
