Mohamed Salah admits ‘ONGOING’ Saudi Pro League talks

Mohamed Salah has opened up on just how close he came on leaving Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League this summer – and he says he has an ‘ongoing relationship’ with the leaders of the big-spending league.
Salah had a long-running contract saga this season as he weighed up the possibility of leaving Liverpool. Ultimately, he signed a new deal at Anfield after perhaps the greatest individual campaign the Premier League has ever seen.
Nevertheless, the 32-year-old Egypt international has discussed just how close he was to leaving Arne Slot’s side.
Speaking to On Sport as Liverpool celebrated Premier League title glory, he said: “I thought there was a good opportunity to join the Saudi League. I believed I might go there if I didn’t renew my contract with Liverpool.
“My relationship with people there [in Saudi Arabia] is still good and ongoing. There were serious negotiations to sign me.
“Liverpool fans were part of the contract renewal process – they put pressure on the management because I’ve been at the club for seven years.
“From day one, I knew they wanted me to stay.”

Salah to Saudi: A question of when
Salah was reportedly being offered a huge salary in the Saudi Pro League, which has been tracking his fortunes for some time. The Egypt international is seen as a potential figurehead player in the league one day.
Having committed himself to Liverpool for the next three seasons, Slot’s side are in full control of his future and will not be looking to move on a player who has scored 29 goals and created 18 more in the Premier League alone this season.
Though Salah’s immediate future is undoubtedly at Liverpool, the probability of the Egyptian one day playing in the Saudi Pro League remains very much alive.
