Marcus Rashford has seemingly confirmed that he won’t be joining Aston Villa on a permanent deal this summer.

The 27-year-old moved to Villa Park on a short-term loan deal during the January transfer window, after being frozen out by Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, and he enjoyed an encouraging four-month spell under Unai Emery.

Rashford scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for Aston Villa, although he missed the final four matches of the season due to a hamstring injury.

The England international has been tipped to join Villa this summer, but his latest social media activity suggests that a permanent move is extremely unlikely to take place.

Following the final Premier League matchday of the season on Sunday, Rashford posted on Instagram: “Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has ( injury aside) been an incredible few months for me.

“It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch. Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant.

“I know it is a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place which everyone worked so hard all season for but I know this club and team will come back stronger.”

Although Rashford has virtually confirmed that he won’t be signing for Aston Villa this summer, he is still set to leave Man Utd on a permanent deal and multiple reports indicate that he has set his sights on joining Barcelona ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Matheus Cunha to be given Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd shirt number

Although Rashford will not join Villa on a permanent deal this summer, a return to Man Utd has been emphatically ruled out following news that Amorim will retain his place as the club’s head coach.

The England international will leave his boyhood club after a 20-year association with the Red Devils, and Matheus Cunha is set to be handed Rashford’s No.10 shirt when his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers is formally completed.
