Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia will all depart the Liverpool club following their final Premier League match at Goodison Park against Southampton on Sunday.

Young, in particular, will be missed by the Toffees, having worn the captain’s armband on occasion when Seamus Coleman has been absent.

The 39-year-old former Aston Villa and Manchester United player, who started his career as a winger before transitioning to play right-back, has featured 68 times for David Moyes’ side during his spell at the club.

Despite his veteran status, Young has featured 30 times in the Premier League this season and had been a regular starter until Moyes’ return to the club following the sacking of Sean Dyche in January.

Goalkeeper Begovic and Virginia, who came through the youth ranks at Arsenal, have been understudies to Jordan Pickford all season, with only the Portuguese getting any game time – just two matches.

According to Ben Jacobs, there is interest in Virginia from clubs in England, Spain and Portugal, with super agent Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute now representing him.

What did David Moyes say?

Everton manager David Moyes has commented on the players who have been let go.

“Since my return to the Club, I’ve seen what a great professional Ash is and know the leadership qualities he has brought to the squad during his time at Everton. His versatility, experience and know-how have also been really beneficial to the team and me,” the Scot told Everton's official website.

“Asmir and Joao have also worked really hard and conducted themselves impeccably.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to thank all three players for their service and we wish them all the very best for the future.”

Everton must now resolve the situations of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Michael Keane, who are also out of contract.
