Viktor Gyokeres move imminent?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Viktor Gyokeres is set to leave Sporting CP for a fee of €65 million this summer amid significant interest from Arsenal.

The Sweden international remained tight-lipped on his future after Sporting secured their second consecutive Liga Portugal title on Saturday, but Romano has revealed that a summer transfer is pending for the 26-year-old.

FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are pushing to finalise an agreement for Gyokeres, with fresh talks scheduled to take place after the Portuguese cup final.

Transfer message delivered

Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke has confirmed that Mikel Arteta will be heavily backed in the transfer market during the upcoming summer window as they attempt to win the Premier League title for the first time since 2004.

The Gunners secured Champions League qualification with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, but Kroenke is determined to dethrone Liverpool next campaign and believes significant reinforcements are needed.

In an open message to Arsenal fans, Kroenke wrote: “We plan to invest to get behind winning and doing better next season.

“We’re delighted we have our sporting director, Andrea, who will play an important role in this. He is part of a unified and strong team, supported by the board, who are crystal clear on exactly what we need to do and the way in which we want to do it. The right way. The Arsenal way.”

Declan Rice issues request

Declan Rice is also hopeful that Arsenal will dip into the market in a bid to improve the squad at Arteta's disposal.

After the Gunners' win over Newcastle, he told Sky Sports: "Hopefully we strengthen in the summer, we sign more players, because we’re probably going to lose a few.

“With the team we’ve got, with the manager we’ve got, we need to be competing for titles. Next year, we’ll be back."

Jean-Philippe Mateta suggestion

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney believes Arsenal should pursue a move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer.

The Gunners are actively chasing a new number nine and Rooney has urged them to consider Mateta as a legitimate option.

“I was looking at the summer thinking Arsenal or Man United would try and take [Mateta] because he gets into both of their teams,” Rooney told BBC Sport ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final.

“He is a handful. He is big, he is strong, he is quick. He’s a bit awkward and clumsy at times, but he is a handful.”

Leroy Sane to join?

Arsenal target Leroy Sane is yet to sign a contract extension at Bayern Munich as he edges closer to becoming a free agent.

The former Manchester City winger will be available on a Bosman deal in July and Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund provided an update on Sane’s future on Saturday.

“There is currently no agreement, that's true,” he told Sky Germany. “The talks have been ongoing for some time now, but they are good talks. We'll see if there is an agreement in the next few days or weeks."
