Liverpool make January move for Caicedo’s favourite player
Liverpool are plotting a €40 million January move for Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge.
That is according to Bolavip, who report that Liverpool are looking towards the Ecuador centre back in an attempt to solve their defensive woes.
Liverpool are ednuring a dismal defence of their Premier League title and are in crisis after losing four Premier League games in a row.
They have conceded 14 goals in just nine games, with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk struggling and first alternative Giovanni Leoni out for the season with a torn ACL.
Liverpool move for Ordonez
Liverpool's preferred centre back target Marc Guehi is not available until the end of the season - on a free transfer.
So the Reds will be forced into the market in January to sign someone else.
Bolavip claims that Liverpool are prepared to pay €40m in order to sign Ordonez, who is a teammate of Chelsea's Moises Caicedo in the Ecuador national team.
Indeed, Caicedo adores Ordonez and has reportedly tried desperately to get Chelsea to sign him.
Ordonez has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge since the beginning of 2025, with the Blues sending scouts to watch him in action on a number of occasions over the past few months.
However, the west London giants decided against landing a new centre-back this summer, despite Levi Colwill’s anterior cruciate ligament injury, and the presence of talented teenager Josh Acheampong may mean that Chelsea stick with their current options next year too.
This has opened the door to Liverpool, who could now strike in January.
The Ecuador defender, who is 21, has racked up 92 first-team appearances for Club Brugge since his arrival from Independiente del Valle and his form for the Belgian giants has attracted significant transfer interest over the past year.
Ordonez was on the verge of completing a move to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille over the summer, however the deal ultimately collapsed and he is now expected to leave Club Brugge in 2026.
