Manchester United defender Harry Maguire believes the Red Devils already have the next Jude Bellingham in the ranks.

Bellingham, 20, has shone since his move to Real Madrid last summer, with Man Utd rueing their failure to sign the England international before he joined Borussia Dortmund back in 2020.

Man Utd were desperate to sign Bellingham during his Birmingham City days and they even brought him to the club’s training facilities in a bid to convince him that a move to Old Trafford was perfect.

However, their attempts were in vain as Bellingham opted to move to Germany instead.

While Man Utd can’t call upon the Real Madrid star’s services now, Maguire believes they have the next best thing in the form of Kobbie Mainoo.

What has Harry Maguire said?

While on international duty with England, Maguire spoke to the media ahead of the Three Lions’ friendly against Brazil on Saturday.

The former Man Utd club captain was asked about his Red Devils team-mate Mainoo and he replied: “It’s incredible he’s (only) 18, he’s so mature. He’s a bit like Jude [Bellingham] was when he was a young boy. He’s got a mature head on his shoulders. I had no concerns.

“I see day in, day out his ability in training. He just wants to work hard and do well. I congratulated him, said he deserved it, keep it up, and make sure he enjoys himself.

‌”He’s got everything, he can handle the ball brilliantly. He’s really strong, powerful, and you can see the progression to play that role, especially for Manchester United.”

Mainoo was called up to England’s senior national team for the first time last week and he could make his international debut against Brazil on Saturday evening.

The 18-year-old has made 20 appearances for Man Utd this season, scoring two goals.
