Several Liverpool fans have urged their club to sign a premier new left winger following Luis Diaz’s performance in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Diaz, 29, has been a regular at Liverpool since his move to Anfield, but he was unable to add the finishing touch on an impressive performance versus Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Colombian squandered three chances within a handful of minutes during the second-half, and accumulated an xG tally of over 0.50 without finding the back of the net.

John Stones was the only player on the pitch who registered more open play xG than Diaz during the match and despite his immense work rate and endeavour, Liverpool fans were angered by his misses.

Diaz completed three dribbles and mustered two key passes during the draw against Man City, but his end product was lacking and has caused several Liverpool supporters to suggest that signing a new left winger might be a smart idea this summer.

AC Milan’s Rafael Leao was name-dropped and the Portugal international would be a superb signing for the Reds. Although his style of play isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Leao is a supremely talented player and one who would help Liverpool massively in their post-Jurgen Klopp era.

Diaz has six goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, while Leao has notched four goals and seven assists in the 2023-24 Serie A campaign.

Liverpool's next manager may want to build his squad with Diaz as a key player, but the ex-Porto man could be sacrificed if the opportunity arises. In fact, he has even been linked with an exit in recent weeks.

As a result, signing Leao could be an ideal move this summer.
