Manchester United reportedly attempted to rival Real Madrid in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe, but were unsuccessful despite their eye-watering salary offer.

Mbappe, 25, has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be extending his contract at the Parc des Princes, meaning he will leave the club on a free transfer when his deal expires at the end of June.

PSG boss Luis Enrique has confirmed that his side “have to get used to playing without Mbappe,” while the Frenchman is expected to finally join Real Madrid this summer.

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has also verbally agreed a move to the Santiago Bernabeu as Carlo Ancelotti’s side prepare to enhance their already vastly-talented squad.

However, Real Madrid unsurprisingly aren’t the only club interested in signing Mbappe, with Man Utd also keen on acquiring his services. According to Spanish outlet OkDiario, the Red Devils offered Mbappe a salary of €500 million over a five-year contract in addition to a €200m signing-on bonus this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly saw a potential move for Mbappe as a major opportunity for the Old Trafford club, but the France international looks set to join Real Madrid instead.

Despite the vast sum offered to join Man Utd, Mbappe is still set to pocket a sizable sign-on bonus when he officially completes his move to Real Madrid.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed: “I had the possibility to check the situation for the signing fee of Kylian Mbappe," the Italian transfer expert said.

“According to sources close to the negotiation, the signing fee of Kylian Mbappe is going to be more than €100m. Some reports speak about €150m, from what I'm hearing it could be a bit less than this, but in excess of €100m.

“The signing fee will not be paid in one solution. Real Madrid will have the possibility to put the signing fee on the five years of the contract, so paying it in different parts as an extra compared to his salary which will be in the range of the other stars - Jude Bellingham, Vini Jr - but for sure, the signing fee will be huge.”
