Timo Werner’s Tottenham Hotspur debut saw him register his first goal contribution for the club after he set up Rodrigo Bentancur’s equaliser against Manchester United less than one minute into the second-half.

The Germany international joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig last week and he was immediately thrust into the starting XI at Old Trafford.

Werner played on the left wing during the game, with Brazilian star Richarlison deployed through the middle and Brennan Johnson on the right.

Despite the aforementioned assist, the ex-Chelsea man was mocked online for several poor moments on his Tottenham debut.

In total, Werner took five shots against Man Utd, but two were blocked and three were off target, with Andre Onana not tested by the Leipzig loanee.

Furthermore, he failed to complete any dribbles (from one attempted) and lost all six of his ground duels. Werner was also dribbled past four times.

It was far from the perfect first appearance, but Werner showed glimpses of real promise, including the assist for Bentancur and several instances where a slightly better final ball would have resulted in a threatening chance.

However, Werner displayed many similar traits to the ones that plagued his time at Chelsea, including his erratic shooting when cutting inside from the left flank.

Many Blues fans were quick to point this out on social media, while neutrals were also critical of Werner’s Spurs debut.
