Newcastle are in no rush to dip into the transfer market at this point of the season, though Dominik Solanke is under consideration for the summer, FootballTransfers has been told.

The decision comes as a strategic move to bolster the squad for the long term rather than making hasty decisions in the January transfer market.

Sources within the club have revealed that Solanke is a player who has garnered admiration from certain quarters of the recruitment team, but the club won’t pursue any potential deal for the Bournemouth striker until the summer, when they will be granted more freedom under FFP rules.

The only active pursuit for Newcastle in the January window is for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who would be available on a short-term loan deal. The Magpies are reportedly keen on securing the services of the English international to bolster the centre of the park following the ban imposed on Sandro Tonali.

We understand that the Newcastle hierarchy want to save major business for the summer, despite their poor run of form of late. The club believes that the return of key players, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock, who are currently out with injuries, will significantly contribute to their campaign. The club does not wish to be in a situation where they are forced to make signings for the sake of it.

Newcastle summer targets?

As previously revealed, Ben Godfrey and Crysencio Summerville are under consideration, though it’s much more likely that it will be summer moves for the pair now.

The two were the subject of recruitment meetings during the last window and we understand that the pair could be targeted again over the next month.

It’s believed that a deal for Godfrey would be viable given a low asking price of £9 million that Everton have set. The club are admirers of the defender’s ability to play across the centre of defence as well as at right-back.
