Flick tells Balde to stay at home amid Man Utd links

Hansi Flick confirmed Alejandro Balde was left out of the Barcelona squad for their La Liga opener against Elche over concerns he is not "100 per cent focused" on the club.

Fabrizio Romano understands Man Utd have contacted the representatives of the 22-year-old left-back to gauge his interest in joining them.

And now Flick has revealed he advised Balde to stay at home as Barcelona start the defence of their La Liga title at Elche on Sunday evening.

Flick also questioned whether the Spain international is willing to stay and fight for his place in the team in his pre-match press conference this week.

Red Devils on the cusp of announcing Baleba capture

United are set to announce the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal worth up to €81million (£70m), according to Romano.

Transfer insider Romano understands the Red Devils have exchanged all the necessary paperwork ahead of the midfielder joining on a five-year deal.

The news comes after Michael Carrick’s side had a second bid accepted by Brighton for Baleba on Friday evening.

United will pay an initial €75m (£65m) for the Cameroon international, 22, with the deal potentially rising by a further €6m (£5m) in add-ons.

Young midfielder joins Hibernian on season-long loan

Highly-rated academy star Jacob Devaney has joined Scottish Premiership side Hibernian on a season-long loan.

The midfielder joined United's youth system at the age of six and went on to make his debut for the Under-18 side at the age of 15, before captaining the Under-21s at 18.

Devaney, 19, was named United Youth Scholar of the Year in May 2025 and trained with the first team under then-manager Ruben Amorim later that summer.

It is the second time Devaney has secured a temporary move to Scotland, having spent the second half of last season on loan at St Mirren.
