Chelsea chase blockbuster signing as contract talks confirmed
Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Luca Williams-Barnett, who was described as a “precious diamond” by Roberto De Zerbi during pre-season.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of England’s best young prospects and he has attracted substantial transfer interest from a host of top European clubs amid his impressive form at youth level.
Williams-Barnett scored once and provided one assist during his only Premier League 2 appearance of the season so far, while he found the back of the net in both of his two starts for England’s U19s in the recent international break.
The attacking midfielder has just over 18 months remaining on his current contract at Spurs, and the north London outfit are now desperate to tie him down to fresh terms in order to retain his services for the foreseeable future.
That is according to The Sun, who report that Tottenham have opened contract extension talks with Williams-Barnett’s representatives amid interest from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Sky Germany claim that while Spurs are determined to keep the teenager at the club, a transfer is “currently being planned”, with Chelsea reportedly among the teams keeping close tabs on his situation ahead of a possible approach next year.

Luca Williams-Barnett is a ‘special player’ - De Zerbi
Williams-Barnett made his first senior appearance of the season during Spurs’ 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup in late August and while he is yet to be given an opportunity in the Premier League, De Zerbi was keen to express his admiration of the player in pre-season.
“We have to manage him like a precious diamond,” the Spurs boss told reporters when asked about the teenager.
“We have to help him to improve in the last decision. Physically, work harder to become stronger because this time of football, he needs to be strong, and to give him space when there is the right moment.
“I usually give time to all the young players I work with in my career, and he is a potential special player.”
Meanwhile, Tottenham stalwart Ben Davies added: “He's a really top player. He's got a lot of potential. I think you can see the qualities that he's got.
“I think now the next step is developing his habits in the game. But to have a player like that who's got no fear, that has the confidence to try things in games, who doesn't get affected if he loses the ball, I think he's got a bright future ahead of him.”
