Canada forward Jonathan David will not be leaving Lille during the January transfer window despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old is wanted by several top Premier League clubs after a stellar few seasons in Ligue 1, but any transfer will have to wait until the summer.

Man Utd and Aston Villa’s interest in David was first reported by FootballTransfers in x, while Chelsea have now joined the race to sign him, according to Telefoot, as they look at alternatives to Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

Despite major interest from the English top flight, Lille will not sell David during the current window.

Transfer expert Romano revealed on X: “Jonathan David won’t leave Lille in the final days of the January transfer window.

“Lille want to keep their best players in January despite interest from England, Spain, Italy - David is staying.

“He’s gonna be one to watch in summer as current deal expires in June 2025.”

David has scored six goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.

Armando Broja to leave Chelsea?

Although Chelsea may have to wait until the summer transfer window to sign David, they may need to purchase the Canadian due to Armando Broja’s uncertain future.

The Albanian has been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge exit in recent days, despite Mauricio Pochettino recently comparing him to former Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Romano has told CaughtOffside that Broja isn’t guaranteed to leave, despite interest from West Ham, Wolves, Fulham and Aston Villa.

“Chelsea are insisting on a big package to let Broja leave in the final days, but nothing is advanced so far,” he admitted.

“From what I’m hearing, also with Aston Villa the situation is quiet despite the stories we heard with Jhon Duran. But again, I would not rule anything out for the final days.”
