Reece James remains focused on Chelsea and sees his future at Stamford Bridge, despite transfer interest from both Real Madrid and Manchester City, according to reports.

The Blues’ club captain signed a new six-year deal in 2022 and was named as Chelsea’s skipper following Cesar Azpilicueta’s summer departure to Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old recently returned to full fitness following another injury issue, and has started Chelsea’s past two Premier League matches, playing a starring role in both games.

Despite his injury problems, however, James is being tracked by both Real Madrid and Man City. The former have been linked with a move for over a year, with reports suggesting the Englishman is seen as the long-term replacement for club legend Daniel Carvajal.

Furthermore, in September, FootballTransfers exclusively reported that Man City were still interested in James, despite the fact that Kyle Walker signed a new contract at the club.

Man City’s interest has now been reported elsewhere, but James wants to stay at Chelsea.

Reece James wants to stay at Chelsea

90min have reported that Real Madrid have an “active” interest in signing the England star, but James is fully committed to Chelsea’s exciting project. Furthermore, he has reportedly completely ruled out a move to a Premier League rival, while a transfer abroad is also very unlikely.

The Blues have spent heavily since Todd Boehly became owner in 2022, but the vast majority of their new arrivals are extremely talented youngsters. As a result, the west London club look well placed to challenge for major honours in the next few years.

As a Chelsea academy graduate, James is keen to lead his boyhood club’s return to the top of English football as captain and win the Premier League title for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

James is currently contracted to Chelsea until 2028 and a transfer away from Stamford Bridge is seen as implausible as things stand.
