Chelsea are ready to "take action" in the chase for Spanish wonderkid Assane Diao, according to a report.

The Real Betis youngster has burst onto the scene this season seemingly out of nowhere. Thrown into the team, the 18-year-old winger immediately repaid the faith, scoring several goals.

Since then, the goals have dried up but his numbers - four goals in 10 senior outings - are still respectable for a player who was virtually unknown prior to this season. In saying that, however, calling him unknown is actually doing him a disservice seeing as though Liverpool were already keeping an eye on him in the summer.

Since the summer, and in light of his spectacular early form, more clubs have entered the fray and one in particular is ready to steal a march on the rest.

Chelsea readying an offer?

What makes Diao so attractive is the fact that his current release clause reportedly stands at 'just' €30 million. While still a hefty fee for someone largely unproven, his potential is immense and that fee could look a bargain if he fulfils the promise he is showing.

According to Football Talk, Chelsea are firmly in the mix for Diao and their interest is becoming increasingly concrete. So much so in fact, that it claimed that they are "clear agitators in the market" who are "contemplating the possibility of taking action."

The report also asserts that, in addition to Liverpool, Man Utd have also taken a keen interest in the exciting youngster as they continue to scour the market for a wide attacking player.

Real Betis may regret only giving him a €30m release clause when they tied him down to a new deal until 2027 earlier in the year to ward off interest. If Assane Diao continues on his current trajectory, one of the Premier League's big hitters could come knocking as early as January before the Spaniards can convince him to sign another new contract with an even higher clause.
