Arsenal have rejected an offer for England international Aaron Ramsdale, according to reports, as he continues to play second-fiddle to David Raya.

The former Sheffield United and Bournemouth goalkeeper has been demoted to a back-up role this season following Raya’s arrival on loan from Brentford.

He did start Arsenal’s 1-0 win over the Bees this weekend, but that was simply due to the fact Raya was ineligible to face his parent club.

In total, the Spaniard has started 12 of Arsenal’s last 15 games in all competitions, and the win over Brentford was the only Premier League game he has missed since he started against Everton on September 17.

Furthermore, Raya has started every Champions League match, and Mikel Arteta is yet to substitute the Brentford loanee, despite stating that he is not opposed to switching goalkeepers mid-game.

Now, Football.London have reported that “an approach from a bottom-half Premier League side to Aaron Ramsdale has been rejected.”

The report also revealed that Arsenal still want to keep the Englishman, despite the fact he is now evidently second-choice, something that Ramsdale was not aware would be the case before the season started.

What has been said?

Ramsdale senior recently told The Highbury Squad: “We did not have a clue [Ramsdale was going to be dropped].

“I didn't have a clue, our family didn't have a clue, Aaron didn't have a clue that he was not going to carry on playing. All of a sudden, he's not been played.

“You just have to look at it personally and I'm probably saying too much but: Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off.

“And Aaron's got to live with that and he is living with that even though he's not been told it. By anybody.”

Ramsdale’s current Arsenal contract runs until 2027 and it remains to be seen if he will stay at the club or seek an exit next year.
